This 56-square-meter, two-bedroom condo unit located in Pasig is a remarkable example of how compact living can be elevated through thoughtful design and smart space planning.
Designed by Sharlene Lanzarrote Interiors, the unit embraces a midcentury aesthetic infused with cabin-like warmth. The overall look balances oak wood textures, black wallpaper, and soft curved edges, creating an inviting atmosphere that feels cozy yet sophisticated.
Every detail from the built-in corners to the meticulously selection of edge-banding was executed with precision, reflecting our commitment to craftsmanship and intentional design.
The entryway sets the tone for the entire unit. Instead of a typical console or open corridor, the client requested a walk-in style storage area near the entrance—a clever move that transforms the entry into a practical and organized drop zone. This built-in storage functions almost like a mini mudroom, allowing them to neatly store shoes, bags, and other daily essentials before entering the main living space. The design maintains visual harmony with the rest of the home, as the cabinetry and wall finishes flow seamlessly into the adjacent kitchen and dining area.
In the kitchen, form and function converge beautifully. The space features a distinctive hexagonal backsplash tile, adding texture and visual interest to the crisp black and white scheme. The kitchen cabinet color combines matte black and classic white, creating a sleek contrast against the warmth wood cabinets in the foyer. This minimalist yet striking composition allows the kitchen to feel both modern and timeless, perfectly complementing the midcentury influence seen throughout the home.
The dining area serves as the heart of the unit—a flexible space that bridges dining, working, and lounging. Instead of a separate living area, the client requested a custom-built dining bench that doubles as a sofa, as they prefer a large, multifunctional dining setup than a smaller one. This configuration not only saves space but also encourages interaction and adaptability. Whether used for meals, work, or hosting guests, the dining zone embodies the practicality and warmth that define the project’s design philosophy.
Aside from the Kitchen, we opted to relocated the coffee and/or winebar station away from the kitchen to ease foot traffic. We designed a sleek floor to ceiling coffee corner near the dining area. It’s also conveniently near the water dispenser which makes the flow more sensible.
Interestingly, the clients chose to forgo a traditional living room entirely. Their lifestyle prioritizes functionality and tidiness, so the floor plan was reimagined to maximize storage and circulation. The absence of a sofa is replaced with intentional design gestures—comfortable seating integrated into the dining area, generous storage along walls, and a layout that promotes movement and openness. This approach demonstrates how compact living is not about less, but about living smarter, creating spaces that respond directly to the occupants’ routines and priorities.
The bathroom stands out as one of the project’s most dramatic features. Clad in black tiles with wood-textured accents, it achieves a moody, luxurious ambiance reminiscent of boutique hotels. Soft lighting highlights the rich textures, while subtle contrasts between matte and glossy surfaces create depth. Despite its compact footprint, the space feels indulgent and calming—a private retreat within a small home. The bold choice of black also ties back to the midcentury aesthetic, where dark tones often played against warm wood for balance.
Moving into the private spaces, each bedroom was designed with flexibility and future needs in mind. The guest bedroom currently functions as a computer and hobby room, complete with a built-in bunk bed designed for the couple’s future child. It is compact but efficient, maintaining a clean and adaptable look.
The master bedroom, on the other hand, embodies quiet luxury with a blue upholstered headboard framed in black accents. The headboard conceals built-in storage for pillows, linens, and seasonal items, maximizing functionality without clutter. The soft blue hue adds a calming contrast to the deeper tones found in the rest of the unit, bringing a sense of serenity and balance.
Overall, this project captures the essence of midcentury modern sensibilities—clean lines, warm materials, and intentional details—interpreted for contemporary city living. Every inch of the 56-square-meter space is utilized purposefully, blurring the line between aesthetics and practicality.
Compact Living proves that with smart planning and cohesive design, a small home can live large—both in function and in style.
